Card: Sweet Friend

So more adventures in heat embossing... not perfect stamping... but I rolled with it.  Been wanting to play with the newer scented embossing powders -- they are so much fun!

First, I colored and stamped each popsicle separately, washing the stamp off in-between.  Then I went back and embossed each popsicle one at a time using vanilla scented powder on the top and Early Espresso on the sticks:

It was a little tedious, but worth it.  Fun and imperfect :)  A little bit of a learning curve, but being honest, not every card ends up perfect.... that yellow popsicle will bug me every time I see it!

Trying to embrace the imperfection... maybe it will line up right next time!

Brian's Squash Lasagna

Have a mentioned before that my husband is a phenomenal cook?!  Well he is!!  He has taught me so much about cooking fresh food by taste and today is no exception.  He made this delicious Squash Lasagna:

I'm so spoiled! :)  Here's his recipe...

Brian's Squash Lasagna
Makes:  One 8x12" pan of lasagna

3 large zucchini squash, cut length-wise into 1/4" slices
2 small onions, chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1-2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
pinch of salt
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 can of tomato paste
1 can of tomato sauce
1 large tomato, diced
1 cup of water (or chicken, beef or vegetable broth)
1 ball of fresh mozzarella, grated
canola oil spray

Preheat oven to 425 degrees and pull out a 8x12 glass baking dish.  Heat a cast iron skillet sprayed with canola oil spray (we usually use Pam or Costco brand).  While heating, put all the sauce ingredients in a blender -- the onions, garlic, spices (Italian seasoning, pepper, crushed red pepper, salt), diced tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, fresh cut tomato and water -- and blend until combined (it will be chunky!).  Pan sear the slices of zucchini until lightly browned on each side.  Time to build your lasagna layers -- put about half the sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.  Layer about half of the pan seared zucchini slices next, then about half of the grated mozzarella cheese.  Your next layer will be the rest of the zucchini slices, then the rest of the cheese and top with the rest of the sauce.  Cover with aluminum foil (to protect your oven from splatters!) and bake at 425 degrees for 50 minutes.  Serve with your favorite salad and bread.  Enjoy!!

Card: Patriotic Miss You

Happy 4th of July!  I made this patriotic inspired card to trade with my upline, Zarogina, and my downline, Kat:

As a demonstrator, one of the perks is a monthly magazine from Stampin' Up! loaded with all kinds of goodies and info!  My favorite column is the technique based column in the magazine.  I CASE-d a card from the March issue that taught a technique called acrylic distress.  I used the same basic layout, ribbon type and placement -- the colors, punches and sentiment set used are my choice!

How do you do acrylic paint distress? I followed these simple steps:

First, paint your cardstock base and let it dry.

Then, run it through your big shot to emboss.

Next, sand the raised emboss to distress it.

Now at this point you can come back with a sponge dauber to add a little ink to where you sanded or choose to leave it alone.

I tested a little Basic Grey ink and a little Crumb Cake ink and didn't like the look on this particular card, so I didn't add any ink.

My final step was to punch out my flower.

I added my punched sentiment using some Stampin' Dimensionals to add some depth and finished the card off using some seam binding and my favorite white pen to add some faux stitching.

Wouldn't this make a great card to send to a friend or loved one serving in the military in celebration of Independence Day?!  I think so....

Happy Independence Day!! Stay safe!! :)

Supplies for this project:

Stamps:  Up, Up & Away
Cardstock:  Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla
Specialty Paper:  Summer Smooches
Punches:  Blossom, 1" Circle, Corner Rounder
Ribbon:  Very Vanilla Seam Binding
Other: Big Shot, Houndstooth Embossing Folder, Sanding Blocks, Uni-Ball Signo Gel Pen, red acrylic paint, Stampin' Dimensionals
